Very cool!
Ah...I didn't think about the flush-nut sight...I don't think I have ever seen one. I didn't know the gas cylinder was stainless steel...explains a lot...
I stumbled across a US Army training film from 1943 titled: "Rifle Marksmanship with the M1 Rifle - part 2" and a couple of things jumped out at me.
I thought lockbar sights came on the M1 in...
Thanks heaps for the cool info!
I had already figured out it was too early for 1941.
What about it makes it not Springfield? (just interested in learning)
Jim
I have a stock that was on a Feb 41 receiver that has the early gas trap style ferrule. I don't think the stock is correct to the weapon, but I was wondering if the ferrule could be correct to the...
One of my Garands has what appears to be checkering on the rear peep and the front sight blade walls are straight...while the other one has a smoother surface on the face of the peep and a curved...
That's a great tip!
Good idea, one of mine is tight, so that would help.
Also, a key to preserving the long-term performance of any garand stock is to not store it with the trigger guard in the locked position. You don't need to take the trigger guard assembly off for...
Ahh...of course! Thanks heaps.
I like older weapons and (except for my 1943 NPM Bavarian) they all show bluing and stock wear, and frankly I prefer them that way...they have the sort of character, that, if they could talk, I would...
The two pictures outside are from the 1941 and the one on the Pendleton blanket is the 1952

I finally have some pics. A Buddy had a stock, so i replaced the one on the '41 since (from what I have found with Poyer's spread sheet), it seems to have many of the correct parts...
I stumbled across a good deal on a couple of SA Garands.
One is from Feb 1941, and the serial number on the other one indicates Jan 1952.
I have been around guns all my life and I have owned...
OK, I didn't know that...
What do you think causes a lame ejection? Do I need to open the bolt faster?
I finally got around to firing this old girl.
I checked it out and all parameters were nominal, so I started out with low power handloads.
It shot well and the ejected brass matched some older...
Thanks heaps!
I have taken a few pics of butt and barrel mark. I have a gun marks book, but none of the marks I find on the rifle are in my book.
Thanks, Jim

I had an opportunity to grab a jungle carbine at a great price recently and I snatched it up...
My Dad always traded on guns and one of my chores growing up in the 1960s was to clean them. One of...
Thanks for the info.
One thing that's interesting is the bolt is smooth but seems tight when closing empty...but, when I load ammo, then it closes a lot easier...more like I would expect.
I...
I'm thinking about trying some hollow base bullets to see if they work fine in the bore
Thanks!
Ahh...thanks heaps for this info!
I was planning on starting with mild loads and maybe working up to maybe midrange, but no hotter...I know I have to work up hot loads for my M1A to cycle well, but for the most part, I'm not a fan of...
