Treat all 7.62x54R as corrosive and you will be fine.
If you want to see if it is corrosive, Pull a bullet from a round and dump out the powder. Load the empty case into a rifle, hold the muzzle...
I used the iron and wet cloth method. It worked good but I ended up buy my wife a new iron. There was a lot of finish left on it.
Great offer. Wish you were closer.
I've thought about trying a disc on glasses as my eyes are getting older.
100m standing? That's great shooting.
I have some old .30 cal Match boxes of ammo that say 173gr at 2640fps. The only thing is I don't know if it is for an 03 or the Garand. I do know there are a lot of shooters using 170 - 180 gr...
I have a small bottle (maybe 1.5 oz) with 1/2 ammonia 1/2 water along with a Swiss cleaning kit that has a sectional cleaning rod. Just squirt some of the ammonia on a cleaning patch, run the patch...
Nice looking family.
Makes me wish I had talent.
Cool pics
I don't know about the SN numbers but that's a nice looking pistol.
At the last gunshow here in MN they had .30, 5 for $25 and .50, 5 for $30. The prices where up from .50 5, for $25 last year.
Picked up a .50 marked MATCH in Iowa last summer at an antique mall....
Isn't this the other reason for buying them?
(I wanted to add this one because I like it. :yikes:)
The only complaint I heard when out shooting is it slaps the web of your hand. I might hold it different because I never noticed.
I liked it enough to get a second.
Those are both nice rifles.
MJ1, is that a Samco?
I use Traiboss in my trapdoor and sharps. 5744 is another good powder for the .45-70. I've shot a lot of BP in the past but mostly use these two for my smokeless loads now.
+1 on beautiful!
It's not only a good looking rifle but a good looking range from what I can see.
Nice shooting. Mind if I try your recipe?
They don't list any 125gr loads here but it will answer some of your other questions.

I treat any ammo that comes in a tin like that as corrosive. Which isn't a big deal. Just run a patch or two with a 50/50 mix of ammonia and water, then a dry patch and an oily patch through the...
Great looking rifle and interesting writeup.
google "the load" by Ed Harris. He uses cast lead bullets with 2400 and Red Dot for loads in th .30-06. Everything I have read shooters do real well with it at 100yds.
I would be real happy with my handload if I were you.
Wow, they are a couple of nice looking rifles. I really like that full length stock.
