I've not been around here much for a long time, although I do still lurk in the shadows, as I have other things to occupy my time. But I would like to say what a fantastic job Gil has been doing...
Afraid not, I'll still be elsewhere.
Good folk of Milsurps land.
I shall be otherwise engaged for several Months so have asked Gil if he would be kind enough to pick up any future enquiries on my behalf. Fortunately he has graciously...

Gil,
Danke mein freund.
Hallo Enfield Enforcer,
Wie lautet die Seriennummer Ihres Gewehrs?
On the Purdey examples I have it is only the company name which is engraved onto the ring and the rifle serial number is engraved on the tube.
The only real way to determine which mounts were...
Rifle A612 was sent to store at Donnington on the 13th Nov 1970.
Funny you should mention Womens reactions to Jeeps Geoff. My good lady wasn't overly thrilled when TMH207 found it's way into my hands in May last year.
To be fair though now she's been out in it...
Bloody Hell 42 operational sorties! The bravery of these Men leaves me speechless at times.
I'm guessing the abbreviations NT and DL equate to Night Time and Day Light?
Going off on another...
Well spotted Geoff. As a little aside I have a lot of his letters home too and in one of them, to his sister, he talks about the prop tip picture frame being ready very soon.
I've also found out...
I'm lucky enough to be the temporary custodian of my Grandads Medals. AM2 Walter Booth. Enlisted with the Royal Naval Air Service, transferred to Royal Flying Corps and ultimately served with 64 Sqn...
I've received a DM from XL39 regarding this one and the posted pic confirms that there is in fact a typo on the serial number list. We're now trying to clarify the date the rifle was issued to store...
Ron,
Rifle AS4213 was a part of batch number 67 which consisted of 4 Weapons and is recorded as being completed on the 30th June 1973. On completion it went out to Donnington.
Can't tell you...
I take it as a former Para that your musings were scribbled in Crayon Gil?:D
Think I'll retreat to the Sangar now and await the inevitable incoming rounds.
Rifle 737 was amongst those assembled by Charnwood.
Cheers,
Simon.
Rifle 735 is recorded as going out to Bangkok Thailand on the 26th January 1983
Cheers,

Rifle No A880 was shipped to store at Donnington on 1st March 1972.
Cheers,
Simon.
I could be mistaken but didn't they have one at Warminster too? Perhaps Peter could confirm?
Georg,
I've never seen that before, in fact until now I didn't even know Russia had experimented with a Ross Sniper.
I wonder if it was rechambered for the 7.62 x 54mm?
In Clive Law's "Without Warning" there's a photograph of a Ross set up with an offset PP Co scope which he credits to one of the Canadian Museum collections although I can't recall which one.
