Chuck,
Thanks for the information. I should have mentioned I was going left to right to remove. The penetrating oil has helped. I was able to drift out the base pin (ended up drifting it back)...
OK... I've read threads on the subject but there's got to be an easier way.
I'm using sufficient force to bend the 1/16" (tapered) punch, even used a nail finisher to try and get it started.

Thanks Rick.
Rolled the dice on a GB auction for a sporterized 03A3. Took possession today and am in the process of putting her into a Keystone replacement stock from the SS.
There is a stamp along the left...
Thanks for all the information. It's always fun to learn new things!
If you need other pictures, etc let me know and I'll do my best.
The FTR does seems to be electro-penciled. It's...
Jmoore,
Don't worry... I would't go near the muzzle with a file!
Is there somewhere else I should be looking for the proofs?
I actually only cleaned the cosmo out of the stock. I have shot...
I've had these 2 rifles for a long time (mid/late 90's) and decided to use the nice day to finally get the cosmoline out of the No1 MkIII. That made me get out my (what I thought to be No4 MkI) No4...
I'd say it was lighter. Really close to a pink-ish tint (but not quite) and not as clean as your 11-85. You can definitely see where the sling attached to the rifle as those places are dark and...
That 12-86 doesn't look too bad. Some staining?
For everyone interested:
I had found an online surplus store that had ~6 available. I was told by the company they were from a JROTC unit. These were the last of 50 slings they purchased.
I...
I've found a few dated 12-80 if anyone is interested. They should be at the house today. I'll post a picture.
Interestingly enough:
Leather Sling - M1 GARAND RIFLE - National Match - eBay (item 120529462689 end time Feb-17-10 13:38:43 PST)
I was watching it for amusement. Was it worth it?
I purchased a few slings recently as post-war slings, but I believe 2 are late WWII.
The keeper is ribbed, but has a narrow "lock" shown here (post #5): Web Sling identification - CMP Forums

Were you shooting at the Wake Co range? I shoot there fairly "regularly" with my Garand. I'm FAR from an expert, but can give you some help. Bring your old barrel and I'll gauge it for you too (to...
Nice deer.
OT:
Jim, better check your reg digest. No law against hunting in standing corn/crops. You may be missing out on a lot of hunting!
The 2009- 10 North Carolina Hunting/Trapping...
The Danish returns from the CMP that I've seen are all WWII serial numbered guns. Granted, I have only seen a small number (CMP guns). Perhaps the rifles purchased by the Danes were new?
I'm looking forward to my next trip (in early December). I wish I lived closer.
Thanks for the report.
Depending on the serial # the LMR barrel could be correct for your rifle. Why do you want to change it?
I think you also need a type III lockbar.
If that is the same Kirk who helped me. He really knows his stuff!
I do not have any "grade" typed on my recent certs (1 RG, 1 FG, 1 SG special). It is listed on the invoice though.
I used the CMP tech info pages (detail strip bolt).
