There is a notch that the larger wings go into. And yes it did hit the firing pin. I switched the plungers between the two mechanisms and I can open the bolt now but it requires a quick strong...
The loose one is the one that works. The other which appears to have no problems is the one that will not allow me to lock the bolt to the rear. I tried to look on the internet for trouble shooting...

They look almost new. You can tell that they were in a rifle at one time but they have not been cut or welded.
