I would think that it is a T99 trigger guard that has the tang cut off. I have seen several T99 sporters with trigger guards like that.
Yes Jim, but I have a lathe which helps in turning out the inside of the die with sandpaper. Most of my dies are old so I don't care much if I goof on them. Prices of new reloading dies these days...
I know this isn't anything new, and it has been discussed here and on other sites. But I still run into shooters who don't know about this. I have a Type 38 rifle that factory ammo will not work well...
Just trying to absorb some of the debate going on here. First, I have not yet seen the gun but I do suspect that the left lug was not in contact with it's recess and developed the crack while being...
Thanks Cinders. I did not know about the bolt fitting procedures. I have given my friend a spare bolt I had and hopefully will try to install it correctly, that is if it is possible at the left lug.
I will get more information about this bolt crack later when I see my friend and look at the rifle. He has told me all he has shot so far were 60 cast bullet loads. The No.1 Mk3 is not a matching...
Some time ago I sold a No.1 Mk3 Enfield to a good friend. He shot it a few times without any problems. Yesterday, he told me he was just cycling empty brass through the gun and noticed a hangup on...
With the proof marks on the barrel, it was once a first rate rifle. But with the training stamp, maybe not anymore.
That marking on the tip of the scabbard is the same as on the grip. Character could be read as "Taira" or "Hei". Could refer to a military unit or something.
303Tom is right. Too many holes in the receiver. Bolt handle looks like a decent weld job. Keep it as a rainy day hunting rifle.
I'd say it is a fair attempt at copying a T38 stock by a do-it-yourselfer. He probably didn't have the jig to cut the finger grooves. Not sure why he put the kanji characters on it though. The...
A friend of mine recently showed me a cartridge he formed out of a Mosin Nagant shell for the 8mm Siamese rifle he has. I am not sure if he had an 8x50 or 8x52. He said the reloading dies are...
It is possible to make the spring out of an old hacksaw blade. Soften the blade with a torch, cut and bend the spring to size, and spring temper it .
Lucky you. A good remedy for me is to eat as much of the deer you killed this season. Burp...Ahhh...
The tag reads "52481" the serial number of your rifle. The other side reads "Kitamura" , probably the soldier's name or unit.
I have mentioned this before on this forum. There was a large quantity of T38s and T99s imported from China around 1989-1990. If you look up some issues of Shotgun News from those years you will see...
I can only find references to a T97 tank and a T97 motar. The box must be for the motar accessory. There is a mention of a whistle attachment for the shell.
I don't know how the characters were verbally read. Looking them up, I got "9 7 shiki dan tei ki baku yaku chi kaku musu teki" and " 12 hotsu hai ". My guess is there were 12 type 97 detonators for...
Rather than trim off anything from the front of the dust cover, maybe take a little off the cutout for the bolt. It should bring the dust cover back the amount you want. Takes only a file and a few...
Mas 36 in 45/70 anybody? I heard of some talk about doing this, but haven't seen anybody else do it. Mines is a work still in progress. Bolt needs to be bent back to avoid hitting the Parker Hale...
BLO or Danish oil will not give you that semi-varnish look of urushi. Try Truoil or Linspeed. Do a sample finish on a piece of wood first.
My mistake, the writing on the forestock does look like "LMX" in english. I couldn't make out that "M" earlier. So, possibly scribed in after war? Maybe game taken with it when it had a complete...
That markings on the forestock could be also be read as "shi 4 me" in Japanese. Possibly meaning " 4 kills". The Koishikawa T38 had serial numbers that went to around 2026087 in 1929. Production...
I wish I had taken pictures of the aftermath, but unfortunately I didn't. I kept the damaged receiver for a few months on my work desk and after that I got tired of looking at it. At a local gun...
