US Carbine
Saw this on a carbine at an auction. Couldn't read what was under the rear sight. Markings were just ahead of closed bolt

Saw what, I do not see anything but your note.

What I was saying, is that the carbine had "US Carbine" stamped on the breech. Could not read what was under the rear sight and since it was a auction, could not take any images of the carbine.
Somebody said it was a Winchester since it was stamped "US Carbine" and I was wondering if anybody would have an idea of what it might be since it was stamped as such. Thanks!

On all the front rings of carbine receivers, it is marked US Carbine. The picture below shows that marking. That is not enough information to be able to tell you anything. A serial number would help with determining who could be the maker.

But, had you reported the still visible serial number to us, we probably could have determined the manufacturer from that.

Thanks to all. I was unaware that all US carbines were marked that way
