X marked former sniper rigs
I've got two former Russian sniper rigs, one a Tula 1933, very nice shape, mint bore and almost completely Tula, tapped for PE scope, the second is a nice 1944 Tula CH marked, Ukraine re build, neither gun has counter bores, but, both guns have an X marking. The early gun has a lightly stamped X on the top of the receiver and the war issue gun has a small X in a box between the star and serial number. Do any of you fellows know the meaning of these "X"s or have you seen them on your rifles? Many Thanks-SDH

It's a common Russian refurbishment marking.

Thanks again Claven2, Would the rifles with this re-build mark been done at the main arsenals? Also if you don't mind all the pesty questions, the CH marked WW II gun was re-built at least twice because of the x and the Ukraine Split squares in the stock, is there a way to determine how many times the rifle has gone through re-build?? I don't know of any reliable way to determine that, but it's a safe bet most ofthese were done in the Ukraine as that is where all these shipments are originating.
