Another Bubba Tragedy - What To Do?
I obtained this 1917 Remington Armory Mosin Nagant a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately, Bubba got to it before I did. The receiver and front sights are obviously something special but the rest, including the barrel cut down to only 19 inches, is pretty much ruined. My options appear to be limited. I can part it out and try to find a donor rifle to use as a rebuild platform or see if anyone else can use the receiver/sights and arrange to get the parts to them. If someone has another option, I would like to hear it. Thank you in advance!

I would rebuild the rifle as the super rare 1907 carbine (almost same barrel length) you would need another stock to convert.
This could be an interesting project

I have to agree with Robert. Build it as a carbine. It has a fantastically marked receiver with great patina. The story of the Remington contract with the Russians makes it all the more interesting. Cool! Salt Flat

lots of pics here

looks like you will need some careful mill work to get the front sight back to snuff.
my quick google fu hasn't pulled up anything looking like those pics. may have to make one.

I watched the 1907 carbine video and that does seem to be a great idea! Since a 1907 stock and set of handguards is probably not available, which Mosin stock would be the best substitute? Pre- war would be my guess since they already have the sling slots secured with the screws.

You have to check around as Mosin n-Nagant parts can be found, a rear sight could be fabricated from a Mauser
carbine rear sight leaf, Worth a try and should not be expensive. Also seen Mosin sling slots with screws around too

McGowen will make you a barrel however you want and you can probably find a cut off bolt handle and get it tig welded on. Probably get McGowen to put the barrel on. Had a local smith do mine and he screwed up the extractor groove.

I think I may have found someone with some original parts. Working on a deal with hopes to bring it back.
