    Trench art

I have a trench art round, from my grandparents. My grandfather never went to europe during WW11. Appears to be about 20mm. It has palm trees on it and comes apart with the bottom half being a lighter. The base is kind of dinged up but has a "36", 2 "stars" and "BPD", stamped on it. It is a belted case. Any idea what it originally started life as? Sorry I don't have any pics of it to upload.
    Thanks. John

Sounds like a 20mm x 138mm B Solothurn. I have a drill round I can show you...but the headstamp eludes me. Is this the shape of it?

Less likely but possibly a .55 (14mm) Boys round? Marine Raider battalions were issued Boys Anti Tank Rifles so one with a palm tree is not out of the question.

BPD = Bombrini Parodi Delfino, Rome, Italyicon

36 should denote the year of manufacture.

Dug up a pic from the web of a BPD 20mm

Thanks everyone. It is the Italianicon round. It hs a short, aluminum looking bullet, in the mouth, that measures 21mm, in diameter.
