ok, time on my hands but this is too good ...

Having a problem with rattus rattus invasion at my house so I looked up some ideas on the interweb and found this amazing historical fact - funny

The traditional mouse trap was invented by Hiram Maxim, who is also responsible for the Maxim machine gun.

I type this with one of the furry little buggers looking over my shoulder (POW from the great PNW Black Rat War of 2010...a different story altogether). In my recent experience, Mr. Maxim's traps were found wanting in that the rats around here are so quick that more often than not they got out from under before the thing snapped shut. The new 'clamshell' style traps ended up doing the trick. Much faster 'lock time'.

The problem with any ingestible solution is that there's no good control of where the victim goes to die, and decaying corpses in the walls and among the rafters can make for a noxious atmosphere in pretty short order.

When I was a lad, adopted by a hard-scrabble KS farm family with a thousand chickens and as many rats we cherished Bull Snakes, protected them even for their rat-control abilities. Biological control tends to work well so long as one doesn't mind the 'control'.
