Help on a possible L39 BUT not stamped L39

Hello all, i kinda collect Enfields along with other Military type rifles... Im more familiar with No4s...
CAme across what appears to be a L39 But it is NOT stamped L39 anywhere... This came into NAVAL Arms if i recall the story... It has a 43 dated No4 receiver.. I cant even see any Brit proof marks...
This is kinda out of my collecting range .. but a very interesting piece if it is what it is...
ANY HELP OR INFO would be greatly Appreciated

Hi, looks like a Maltby receiver to me, as far as I am aware The L39's were assembled at Enfield utilising unused Fazakerly No4 bodies, all marked L39 and dated.

Not all L39 production used new bodies. My own uses a recycled Maltby, which has been upgraded to Mk2 spec.

Its "just" a gunsmith converted No4 target rifle.

The majority of No4 7.62mm target rifles used were converted by gunsmiths - at the time L39A1s would have been rarely seen as they were only available to military units. However, as many of these target rifles share identical components with L39s or L42s (same barrel, woodwork from same contractor, Parker Hale sights and woodwork, etc) they are often literally identical, less for the military markings.

In UK you have the paradox that an L39A1 has a decent value due to its markings and therefore provenance, whereas an absolutely identical No4 target rifle built of the same components is currently worth less as a complete rifle than the eBay value of its Parker Hale sight.
