Convert to push safety?

I have an Inland (#700XXX) that I picked up several yrs ago as a plinker. Apparently it's an arsenal rebuild (barrel stamped Buffalo Arms 9 1948) and has adj rear sight, flip safety and bayonet lug. I know it's a mixmaster of no particular collectors value but it is a good shooter. I don't particularly like the flip safety and would prefer a push safety. Are all the repro push safeties interchangeable from a fit/function perspective? What's a good source for a repro safety?

I can't say for sure if a repro flip would properly fit.
A plain faced GI push safety really isn't that expensive.
Plus you know it will fit correctly.
Either way, you can simply replace the flip safety to a push.
Being a US GI weapon.........it deserves a real GI part.

Sure that barrel isn't dated 9-43... with the 3 struck hard?

You're right, it's 9-43. My eyes are older than the carbine; that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. I see push safeties over at Numrich for about $20, is that the usual going rate? Looks like you could make one in about 45min if you had the dimensions.

I ended up buying an unmarked USGI Type 2 safety for less than $20, including shipping, on Gunbroker so it can be done both cheaply and correct if so inclined.

And I'm with you. I much prefer the push button safety.

Hey guys,
Doesn't a push safety function better if it has the shorter mag catch/safety plunger? The early one that measures 0.90" instead of 1.0"? I've used both with a push safety but the longer one seems to be stiffer.

I have an "EW" type III push safety in my Inland. I prefer it to the flip also, since I am used to 870 Rermington riot guns for over 20 years! I suppose I should find a Type III unmarked (I don't think Inland type IIIs were marked, were they?) to put in it. My EW is probably worth $35-40, is my guess.

The length of the plunger and spring make no difference except for the amount of force needed to move the safety. Most repros fit fine. Conversion takes about 1 minute, if you get good instruction.

RM, the "EW" is worth that only if it is real... now, if you want to sell a FAKE "EW" on GB, you can probably get over $100 if you claim it came off of Gen MacAuthur's personal carbine that was brought home by your favorite Uncle (twice removed) in a seabag!
