    1895 Winchester Lee Navy Help

Hoping this forum may help. Just acquired a 1895 Lee Navy that has most of its metal buffed out, making the markings very faint. I can barely see what looks like a serial # of 5960. Was there a block of numbers recovered from the Maine....thinking that is the reason for the metal being buffed on this rifle.

    #5960 is a hit!!!

It's on the list of Maine recovered rifles. I looked in "The Winchester Lee Rifle book by Gene Myszkowski were it lists the numbers. I think the old Bannerman catalog also lists the numbers. Congratulations, Ray

I looked on the old Bannerman page, and it shows the rifle in Mike Weight's collection. I do not know how old the site is, but I did send Mike an email to see if he still has the rifle. The serial number is hard to read, but looks like the same one on Bannerman's.
This is the best photo I could get...
