Barrel Off Center in Front Barrel Band

I was trying to fit a NOS stock to my new 1903a3 Remmington after some sanding and fitting it looks like there's more clearance on one side of the barrel under the large front band than the other. It doesn't look like it's touching the barrel, so aside from annoying me will this affect anything else negatively, i.e. accuracy?

Have you shot it yet to see, before you think about changing it?

No yet.. I also just noticed the front band (with the lug) has some vertical movement (teeter-totters a bit with pressure applied) as well. I guess I took too much off the top of the channel and rounded bottom when I was fitting it... any suggestions on how to go about "building the wood back up" on the sides of the channel? I'm thinking if add anything to the bottom rounded portion the band would get closer to the top of the barrel which is what I don't want. I also have yet to drill the hole for the band screw. I'm hoping I haven't screwed it up too much.

Totally the bobo way, but wood filler can be sparingly applied to give you a chance at a do-over.

Totally kicking myself for doing this. That may be what I'll have to do, because even after I put in the band screw I'm sure it'll still pivot down in the front...
