Yes, the upper part was for the prong flash hider.

Interesting is that this tool will only fit the later prong type flash hider, it will not fit the very early prong as the slots are smaller !Attachment 17923

Correct: I used to have them new in the box, and if I recall the contract was 1966.

I have one of the first wrenches pictured; been using it for a L-O-N-G time; never seen one of the earlier style wrenches, though.

Referring to that early version.

I suspect it is either Colt or a Depot made tool. I have never seen an FSN, Drawing Number, or listing in a TM of that style.

It would be nice to find out the origin. Is there a marking I can research?

Bill, I'll have to contact the owner of this wrench by snail mail, so it might take a week of so for the answer. But I'll try to get a photo of the other side or a DN if there is one on the tool. He's also the one who sent me this copy of the early tool sets.

Is that picture from the Colt catalog? I have an early TM, maybe I should pull it out and educate my brain.

I was lucky enough to find a set of vice locks with part number marks.
