    unknown stamp on stock nose

I have a M1917 with a G on the stock nose. I can find no reference to this marking. The rifle is a very nice Remington mfg in Feb 1918. There are no rebuild stamps on the stock and the rifle wears it's original bluing. Any ideas?

Replacement stock, there are a few out there with no ID at all and a couple I have heard of with letters.

Probably post WWI as those should have been marked.

I have a nice Winchester that has a no stamp on the nose at all stock.
