Thanks for your reply- today is better, but I tried that Bell test and it wouldn't complete. I've tried other such tests and haven't seen any alarming numbers though. I have what Telus calls "high speed light", and I have suspected on occasion that some "throttling" was going on.

It may be that I'll need to upgrade my service, what with my computer, wife's laptop and Apple TV all going at the same time.

I'm staying with Mountain Lion until they release a bug-fix version of El capitan: I've been reading reviews and the sheer number of people who deeply regret the upgrade has me staying where I am for now.
