As of late I've purchased several surplus arms. I've had good luck, carefully checking each barrel, stock fit and finish, in hopes of getting the best shooters possible. The objective is to develop a load or two each likes and fire a CMPicon match format, with each, at 100yds.
This Savage has been a real pleasure to work with. I can understand why so many find these so appealing. This ones all Savage, matching and a definate keeper. It likes 37 grs of AA Data 68 powder and 150gr Hornady SP's. It performs just as well with 160 grs Sierras & the surplus flake from 900rds of Yugoicon 8mm I pulled down. This is too much fun!
The left target was fired in the prone w/sling. 10 rds slow fire. Other than the one flyer its a 1.7 inch group. The right target is a 30rd CMP format. 10 slow prone/10 min, 10 rapid fire/80 sec/5&5/from the standing to prone, then standing/10 shots. Started with a clean slow and went downhill from there (of course). I am pleased with the result. A 280 w/6-X's. Not as good as the Swede, on par with the RC K98K, but 6 points better than the Turkishicon Mauser. The Turks action doesn't cycle as sweet as the rest. Proving difficult during the rapids. Can't wait to get some brass for the K31icon.
