    Fellow member Mikey 51

Our fellow milsurps and Carbine Club member Mikey 51 wanted me to pass word along that he's dealing with illness in the family.
His 79 year old Mother had a severe stroke 4 days before Christmas and is paralysed down the left handside.
Our little buddy down in New Zealandicon has asked of me ......"Can you let the troops know that I will be back as soon as possible"

To Mike and your loved ones,
I pass along these verses in hopes that you can find strength in your time of need.

    Proverbs 3, 15-18

15 - She is more precious than rubies: and all the thing thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her.

16 – Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honor.

17 – Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.

18 – She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her.

    God Speed Mate,

    Charlie

    Mike

My thoughts go out to you and your mother.

The next few weeks and months will be critical to whatever recovery she makes. If you can, try to get her into an intense rehab program where they spend up to 4 hours a day in rehab. Thirteen years ago my father had a major stroke and when I arrived in Vermont I watched the San Diego Chargers lose the Super Bowl while dad was a vegetable. Five days later he walked out under his own steam and is still around at almost 93. Almost 3 years ago my wife had her first major stroke at 69. After a week in intensive care, she moved to rehab and her progress could be measured on a daily basis. Three weeks later, she too walked out under her own power. Six months later she was driving again.

Your mom has about 6 months to recover about as much as she will recover. The progress can come very quickly once she enters rehab.

Hang in there and remember the first rule for care givers: Take care of yourself, because if you lose it, you can't help your loved one.

Check and see if your local hospital supports Care Pages ( Free patient websites, blogs, support and community - CarePages.com ) where you can set up a personal web page to communicate with your mother's friends.

Mike, send me an email and I will link you into my wife's Care Page.

    Best wishes

    Mike

I agree with Mike. There is a terrific strain on caregivers. Take care of yourself. You can't be much help if you go down too. My wife and I have both been caregivers, so I know of what I speak. I'm praying for her fast recovery and for your continued well-being. Hang in there and don't drive yourself too hard.
When they tell you to behave, they always forget to specify whether to behave well or badly!
