"A" Stamped HRA & IHC Stocks

I am new to the forum and need some help. I think I have an IHC and a HRA stock.

What I think is the IHC is stamped with a Circle P no serifs and a "A" on the grip with a 1/2 inch DAS on the left side. 0695 is stamped inside the forend. it still has the sanding swirls on the stock. It has the cutout on the right side by the rear sight. It has some light light dings and dents.

What I think is the HRA is stamped with a Circle P no serifs and a "A" on the grip with a 3/8 inch DAS on the left side. It has some dings, dents, & scratches.

HRA is the left pic IHC is the right.

Now for the questions. Am I correct on the stock makers? What does the "A" stamp mean?

I think you are correct. I believe HRA was the only manufacturer to use a 3/8" DAS. The other stock, based on the numbers in the stock channel, sounds to be IHC. I have no idea what the "A" mark is.

An "A" marked on the buttstock usually is taken to mean an Anniston rebuild rifle. "AA" meant Albany and so on with other marks such as RRA, RA , BA etc. On the grip of the stock though, I am not sure it meant the same thing.

Perhaps some others could kick in here and and share their expertise.

AA is Augusta Arsenal. Anniston rebuilds were marked AN or A4 on stocks. On receiver leg of 60s rebuilds you will find BA4 or A 4 for Anniston. Albany was the Marine Corps Logistics Base which marked the heal of the receiver with the rebuild codes "O-65, O-66 and O-67". The "A" stamp onthe OPs rifle is on the pistol grip, in the area of the "P" proof. Rebuild stamps are not placed in that area as far as I know.
Letterkenny also marked the receiver leg "LEAD" and the date.
This site is pretty good for rebuild marks on stocks. Arsenal overhaul and inspection stamps
