JM,
Am looking for basic info on feeding and care of it. Proper cartridge insertion, etc ...
When I'm back, I'll try and do a spread of pictures of my 1899 for comaprison's sake.

New thread please for the 1899!
I'll start one now with what photos that are already on file. It ought not really be in the "Other U.S. Service Rifles" forum, as it is more readily classed as a Cuban milsurp, but for ease of cross reference it'll start on this forum. (Does Michigan "National Guard" count as US "military"?

Some more linkage:
A 2009 thread that included what may have been my first very primitive but enthusiastic range report:
"Yee Blxxdy Ha!
Shot the 1879 45-70 US Navy Lee this morning! (PMC brass 405 gr lead bullet)
Impressions:
SMOOOOOOTH action (maybe moreso than a well used SMLE)
Crisp single stage trigger
Sights OK but it shoots about 6" right at 100yd 3-4" 5-shot groups. No 200yd or more yet.
Bolt handle not too far forward.
FUN (Did I mention smooth action? Its also really fast cycling!)
!!!!!! More later"
Link to that ancient-ness (The impressions cited above haven't changed, BTW ):
"Pre" topic question- Remington Lees
And the real reason for this post- Photos of the very first type of Lee box magazine with possibly more to come!:

Need partsb for Remington Lee 1879
Anybody know where I could get a bolt and cleaning rod for the Remington Lee 1879. It's the USN contract rifle.
