Range day to test reloads
I recently formed new cases with the O ring method. These targets show the results. I am shooting a BSA #4 Mark 1 T. The first target is at 100 yards with a 180 cast linotype bullet with a gas check. The load was 43.5 g H-4350. Even though I have shot this rifle numerous times I have a hard time holding on the same spot. The second load was 174 SMK with 42 g. Varget. I needed a new zero so I fiddled a few times to center the groups. Could someone point me to a regulation target for sighting in. Thanks for looking.Attachment 57371Attachment 57370Attachment 57369

Setting the top of the blade to be just a gnat's whisker below the black of a tin-hat target gives better horizontal centering than with a round black, and is certainly easier to use than that luridly coloured object you posted!
BUT
if you let the blade run into the black, the height becomes uncertain (as with a round black). You must keep a sliver of white between the top of the blade and the bottom of the black. Practice enables you to get closer!
There is more info on the forum somewhere (please search it out yourself, it's way past grandpa's bedtime here) - such as how high the POI should be at 25yards in order to be on target at 100. But please note that this also depends a bit on the ammo!

It is an original Mark 1, rebuilt by Mr. Laidler last year. I have tired eyes and correcting zero on the scope needs extra hands. I made up some tin hat targets and found a 100 yard zero I am happy with. Thank you Mr. Chadwick.

A Tad Warm
Entry Level just a quick one - I ran that load of 42gn Varget (AR-2208) your using through Quick load with the 174gn SMK and it may be a tad warm,
Pressure - 45,798 PSI
Velocity - 2,524 FPS
Muzzle Energy in Ftlb - 2,462
I notice the recoil pad you have it may affect the way the rifle recoils it may not sit in the same spot, I use my 303's as issued and I know when I have fired 90 rounds in a day it ain't much fun but in the big scheme of things when your are having fun who cares it is worth it.
Unfortunately I did not take a pic of the results but a friend used my 4T at 100yds with my reloads with sling and clover leafed the only 3 shots he had out of it with the 174 SMK and I think that is pretty good considering he had never fired the weapon before my efforts were a tad dismal but heck its fun.
FYI I use 40.5gns AR-2208 (Varget) for @2,441fps 41,385 PSI from memory the Mk VII round was 2,450fps I would consider backing it back a tad but it is only a suggestion.

Thanks for the suggestion. When I chronograph it I can't get more than 2300 fps. Maybe it's the moly coating. The recoil pad helps with eye relief since the scope, wants me to be very close to get good picture. Next range day I will check velocity again. Thanks for the suggestions.
