I picked up a 36 gun Liberty safe at Cabelas on Black Friday. It was my big purchase of the day. Brought it home but left it in my trailer until yesterday when I had my son-in-law and furture son-in-law here for Christmas dinner. I gutted all the small shelves and center support out of it but left the top shelf in place so I have some space to put things on top. So far I have 21 in there with bolts and it looks like I should be able to get somewhere between 50-60 in there before it's all done. Big ones went in first. I filled up the areas where the top shelf allows longer rifles to stick up through so from here on should be smaller more uniform types. Muzzle up, muzzle down is a must.

Jim:
That's a good packing job.
Now, about the extra-plush bordello carpet used as a lining.......................

I feel a semi-failure. I could only pack 52 in there. Bolts, magazines and slings are all in place. Might try removing the bolts at least but would probably only get me a couple more. On the positive side, I could still get 6 handguns in the door and have the entire top shelf empty. I have a couple of smaller guns in my other safe that I can probably fit in and I could take down the take downs and put them on the top shelf.
I guess my next option is a safe room in the basement.

Now you are talking.
I am very fortunate to have everything I need and a good portion of what I want. Save a gun vault. Perhaps one day.

There is a system out there in cyber land that uses a rod down into barrel an a hook an loop to attach to top shelve claims to expand your safe to double capacity can not remember the name of them. Safe room is best but you also need to control the air temp.
