Funnily enough Peter, they were called the S.U.Carburettor Company Ltd of Birmingham.
Had many dealings with them when I had a variety of MGB.......'s.
Another life before Mercedes reliability.

My previous car life centered around MG's too. The last was an MGB GT V8. A rocket sleigh on wheels! It now lives in Tassie, my old pal from 7RAR bought it
I nearly bought one recently in beautiful British Racing green, they are based near me with their Owners Club!!
So sad when you see the new MGZS SUV, they are so generic there is nothing exciting about them anymore they have truly lost it as a brand until they come back to British designs and not Japanese styling IMHO

I have a feeling that they only lease the MG name, I think it still belongs to BMW
They copy anything as I found out when they copied my drill.
On one hand they execute those who copy stuff like that, which makes its way into their Government and on the other, they clearly make an exact copy and can see no wrong and totally deny it. The below is a good example of that for a portion of the price. Would I want to own it, I know how the MD of Rolls felt, been there....................bloody fuming and nothing you can do about it??

My one an only trip John was to Guangzhou near Shenzhen their really big industrial copying base afew years ago.
I was taken around a museum behind glass where only company visitors could go and see what was there, and everything from the west of enormous interest, like the wheelbarrow, bomb suits and anything that needed a bit of thought behind its construction was there, side by side. Our version right next to their copy to show presumably comparison. This was open and in my face.
Whilst there, I saw a workshop with 3 massive CNC machines with AUCTION written right across each one in white chalk, which had come from the UK Midlands somewhere from a closing down auction, working and making something with a gaggle of men around them. So in short they will "reproduce" anything to a bad level.
Ironically, I have found myself at two farm auctions just recently after the harvest when the older combine harvesters were being auctioned off. I have never see so many Indian lads fighting nearly for these old style machines.
I asked one why they were bidding so furiously against each other, and they said it was becuase they could mend the "non computer" old machines in India but not the new computerised ones.
Goes to show, we have taught them well in the mend and save area of life!!!

I was looking at AR15 parts the other day and while trawling through the tinterweb I came across a Chinese company that makes cheap copies of all the Car15 butts from all the major manufactures!
I am sure they are a load of rubbish, but every example sold steals a potential sale from the original manufacturer.
The progress in China over the last 40 years is dizzying, from a third world country to a superpower and by far the most powerful County in the world by 2050, leaving the US floundering in it's wake, if things continue at the present pace.
With great power comes great responsibility though, so all these copyright infringements etc need to be sorted out, or China will slowly kill its own economy at the roots as Countries refuse to trade with them.

I certainly wouldn't want to be behind any of their weapons copies of which I am sure there are many. Always wondered how many "Big" names in gunsmithing turn to China to make their bits for them on old British or American machinery!!!!
