I think your going about it the right way ! There's a M2 Plainefield 10 minutes from my house @ $5400. but from what I have read those were cast receivers and not as solid as the GI 's, so the ability to move from host to host is the way to go. I do have other NFA toys and a trust as well so something in state would be an easy transfer. My buddy just got paper work back on 2 MG's that he sent in back in Feb 2012. Best Chris

this is a registered trigger housing and is supposed to come with everything i need to convert an M1icon to M2 spec. including stock, slide, bolt, selector, etc.

i looked at a Plainfield and a very nice Ivor Johnson and passed for the same reason. also looked at a couple of nice original M2's and decided i didn't want to be the guy that trashed a valuable piece of history by putting thousands of rounds through it like my Mac's.
this will be my 5th stamp and the waiting never seems to get any easier. there are pros and cons to having a trust. i was mostly to cheap but also worried that atf was going to make life more difficult for people with trusts. now with E-file i wish i had. supposedly, wait times are much reduced.

Our paperwork in Canadaicon seems to take forever too right now. I'm waiting to do a trade and the paperwork is "Forthcoming" with no ETA...at least you guys can transfer an FA for some good times...

I'd end up going broke, buy a supressed M3 and then feed it...it'd cost me a mortgage...
    Regards, Jim

Dec. 9th is the big day, if Obama signs the pending bill my Trust will still need the CELO to sign, he already does NOT do suppressors if political pressures get high for him, I could see him snubbing everyone, that's why the Plainfield was so attractive it is close and I could still get it sent in in time. We must think alike, who wouldn't want to own an original M2 but I'd hate to be the guy that ruined it. Chris

There is no "bill" pending for Obama to sign. It's a proposed change in regulation. To learn about the Federal rulemaking process see

    https://www.federalregister.gov/uplo...ng_process.pdf

December 9th concludes opportunity for public comment on the proposed rule change.

picked up my new (to me) carbine. i hope to use this gun as a host for my M2 trigger group when ever ATF lets me have it. the receiver is Inland serial # 6.246 and the barrel is also inland 2/44. the front sight is stamped with a P and the rear sight is I.R.CO. (capital "O" ?) 6160060. the cut out in the stock for the sling is either HI or IH with no other external markings that i can see. the barrel band is marked KI and the bolt is flat. that's all i can see until i can disassemble it. any suggestions as to what i should look for?

Just jumping in without reading the whole post.
Curious if you might already have some M2 internals.
Like the correct late style Trigger Housing, or a modified to M2 TH?
Might find a Inland M2 Op slide and sear already installed.

Your P frt sight is a WWII replacement.
The HI stands for Hillerich & Bradsby, made for Late Inlands. Stock is often called a 'potbelly'

charlie, thanks for the info. the M2 trigger housing/group and the M2 spec slide and bolt that came with it are hopefully all i'll need for the conversion.

just an update to this old thread. i finally got my stamp back, the paper work went in the mail box to ATF 12/03/13 and the stamp arrived 7/14/14. i guess the xtra man power in the NFA divison of ATF is starting to pay off. now it's time to start building my M1icon to M2 specs and see how she runs!
