ways to butcher the name Mauser

Recently browsing some for sale ads and noticed someone had a "Malzer" for sale. His picture shows what appears to be a decent Argentineicon 1909 Mauser. He wants to trade it for a F150 Ford with good inspection sticker. Anyhow, it makes me wonder just how many ways there are to malign the name of Mauser?

Half the time, I think it's just the failure to spellcheck before posting. The rest is just poor speech habits. I grew up with guys like that.

i don't know about the Mausers as the word is simple enough, but for the Mosin Nagants it seems to be endless. it's pronounced "Moseen Nahgon". not Moysin Nagant. not Mohsin Nahgahnt. Moseen Nagon.

Eh, a gunsmith I know calls 'em "moist nuggets".

The usual mangle of Mauser that I see is just the regular old "Mouser". Malzer is a new one!

As to 'mouser' for 'Mauser', it's a direct translation. In Germanicon, a cat which hunts well is called 'ein gutes Mauser': 'a good mouser'. At one point, Mauser actually used a capital letter "M" with a pussycat beneath as a trademark.

Then, of course, you can have some real confusion between Beretta and Breda, especially when they both made the same toys at times.

Perhaps it's a Good Thing that there were only 50 Armaguerra 39s built; that one trips me up and I used to set type for my own newspapers.

What's REAL fun is when you have to transliterate and the alphabets don't line up perfectly; Russianicon likely is the most common example of this. When I registered my junk, the people at the registry told me just to write down what was on the guns, so I wrote down things such as 'Imperator'ski Sestrotyet'ski Oruzheiniya Zavod", exactly the way they said, and it took them 4 years to work it out. On the same principle, though, they still don't have a certain "Overslag" rifle figured out!

As to Noisy Maggots, I have no idea what people are screaming about!
