    Need M1 carbine barrel replaced

Hello! New here and need some help. I recently purchased an Underwood M1icon Carbine. After receiving it, I noticed a good bit of muzzle wear and would like to have it replaced. Any advice/help in finding a smith that could do this would be appreciated. Not as big on collector value as I am in a decent shooter.
    Thanks for your time!

Have you shot it to see what it does? I have seen many that look muzzle poor, but shoot great.

Like Jim said shoot it first and then decide, but if you already have and are determined to replace it you have some options. I'm in Dayton your not that far away from me, I know a guy in Xenia that is top notch, or you can check with the CMPicon I believe they still do smith work, you can send it up and they could send it back.

As far as a barrel goes, I think you can still buy new after market ones on EBAY or maybe a better used one, but be prepared a good USGI barrel will run $275. and up. If your interested in my guy in Xenia feel free to PM or Email me.

I just checked CMP has new ones in stock, you could buy it and send your rifle up and let them do the install.Civilian Marksmanship Program eStore

    Best of luck. Chris

I appreciate your comments. I just slipped out in the drizzle and took 3 shots, standing. At 20 yds. I had a 1 inch group, at one o clock, 2 1/2 from center of target. Raining pretty steady right now. Not much to go on but opinions would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

Stepping out, three shots standing...if you want to get the most out of a carbine, use a bench and a sandbag. The full size bag. Use the proper position and hold and factory ammo. The rain won't make much difference but a clear sunny day will help. Try at 25 to make sure you'll hit the target and then at 100 yds to see what's up. A half effort will result in less than stellar results and your decision will be tainted. I'll bet at 25 you can cover them all with a dime and at 100 they'll be acceptable to standard.
    Regards, Jim

That would be about 4"-5" at 100 yards. Off hand shooting I would think that is pretty darn good.

Adj sight? try a move and see what you get.

But he was at 25... let's see 100. And a bag is still the true way to tell. At any rate, I doubt the barrel really needs changed. I had a friend that used to visualize his carbine barrel wearing out before his eyes. They all shot better than he.
    Regards, Jim

Again, Thanks! I plan on setting up a bag, table and chair and seeing what I get. Just need a break in the weather, then see what I can get out of it. I've built, and repaired many rifles and shotguns but this is my first experience with an M1icon carbine. I'm reasonably pleased with my first 3 shots with this rifle. I'll update with further results, as soon as I learn more.
I appreciate the advice and comments. BTW Impressed with these forums.
