USMC sniper serial # question, please...
I found a MC1952 rifle, with correct, large-turret MC-Kollmorgan scope, 1944 barrel, and G&H base, numbered to gun...Has squared levers on the mount, not round, like an M1C...has an original 2-52 leather cheekpiece laced & screwed to stock..
It looked like the real McCoy but is serialed in the #259xxxx range...
I know about the 31xxxxx to 38xxxxx range the standard M1C's are in, but are these MC1952's different?...what else should I look for?
Asking price is $5000
Thanks

USMC Sniper
No way to know. USMC had a proceedure to drill a receiver. No way to authenticate. But at 5K it is a deal for scope and mount. Rifle is free. Can you describe the flash hider?

There are no great men, only great challenges that ordinary men are forced by circumstances to meet.

Did the MC1952 utilize the leather cheek pad? I have repros of two USMC documents dated 1959 and 1962 that seem to imply they did not.
It seems intuitive that the pad would be installed but its not in a spare parts list or on a full length photo of the rifle.
I can forward thedetails of the pubs if you need them.

Jim

Jim,
The cheek pads were not listed in the early spare parts lists but some of them had them installed and some of the few originals released from Quantico Museum had them installed. The ones installed did not have the stocks drilled for the screws. They were optional according to a shooter's choice.
