2 groove barrel accuracy?
Stopped in the LGS and spied a sporterized No4 Mk1, 1942, with 2 groove barrel.
Other than shortened barrel (looked abt 20") and shortened varnished stock, it looked complete.
Didn't have my reading glasses so I couldn't tell if it had matching S/Ns.
They were wanting $99 for it....
Almost bought it but wanted to ask about the 2 groove barrel. Were they and are they still accurate if in good condition?
I've read differing opinions but wanted this groups assessment.
Thanks,
John

It was only a war time expedient to produce barrels faster my 2 groove no 4's are just as accurate as my 5 groove Mk III's I have, I reckon the 2 groovers are easier to clean. just MHO

Ok, I'm going over there tomorrow and get a better look. I'll take my glasses this time!
It'll probably follow me home... I need another project.

In its original configuration (optimum length and properly bedded) it would be as good as any other barrel.
Having a 'lump' chopped off & woodwork butchered will result in totally unknown accuracy.
No one can comment on its accuracy, or even compare it to their rifle - buy it, shoot it and you will find out.
Mine are not the best, but they are not too bad. I can think of lots of Enfields I'd rather have but instead of constantly striving for more, sometimes it's good to be satisfied with what one has...

Just like any other sporterized milsurp rifle.

Yep, that's the jist of it!
