In general military service? NONE. Trials? Several were tried but not successfully.

By the time any serious consideration was given to replacing the old L1A1 telescopes in the late 70's early 80's, when the last L42 conversions were still being churned out the GS requirement had decreed that the L42 was past its sell by date. By the early mid 80's the trials were taking place and by '86, the L96 was in the pipeline.

    L42A1 Lyman Perma-Center scope

    Good Day,
Here is an example of one of the late "test" scope mounts and the scope that came with it.
    Regards,
    Michael

    Kim,
Thanks for yours, nice to 'speak' again, & yes, I am enjoying retirement - I can play with Lee Enfields all day long! If it is of any interest, in the fullness of time, I intend to get a few of these brackets remade. I won't do many, as I suspect that there will be a few very keen people, but with the emphasis on 'few'. I also don't have any time scale yet, but hope it will be within the next 12 months or so (unless somebody else beats me to it, of course). I have two slightly different patterns to chose from, but would probably do the one as per FlightRN's photo above. The other type I have is very slightly different & uses plain 1/4" BSF allen screws to locate it, rather than the traditional thumb screws.
