SMLE gurus, lend me some knowledge!

    Hey Guys,

Looking at potentially purchasing a nice SMLE and got some info from the seller, I primarilly am familiar with No.4s so I figured I would post some pics and brief info I got to see what the experts think.

Info I have recieved from seller.

    Its a 1917
    Butt socket reads:
    " Enfield, 1917, ShtLE, III* "
VG bore and headspace checks out.
    Stock stamped with " B D "

    Any tips would be great!

    Thanks

Rearsight protector is on backwards, and the rearsight pin is the wrong way around. If someone has been fiddling with this, then its best to check that all of the forend components are present, and that the forend is in serviceable condition - e.g. not crumbled at the rear in the draws and recoil faces.

Rest of the rifle looks ok, apart from the buttplate which appears to be too big for the butt. This might indicate that the rifle is someone's put-together, so best to check that all the numbers (bolt, receiver, barrel, nosecap, rearsight, forend) match and are in the same original font.

Nice bit of tiger stripeing in that butt, would clean up nicely.

Looks a nice transitional fore end as well, you can see the flat where the volley sight dial usually goes.
