    Need Help Fast!! 41 or 42 ??

I went to the gun show with 3 of my Garands hoping to sell 1 or 2 to raise funds for a very nice all correct 1942 SA. I found a guy that was buying and boy was he.

    1. HRA CMPicon service grade that I feel was really a correct grade, wood, metal finish and parts 100%. one of my nicest but not nicest M1icon's. SOLD!
    2. Win 1942 mix master wood not matching metal finish so so. SOLD!!
    3. HRA CMP metal and parts 100 % but with CMP birch blond stock. SOLD!!!

It was astonishing to have this happen and I know the prices were fair for both of us and I now have the money to purchase an all correct not restored 1941 or 1942 M1.
Do I go with the flush nut or the lock bar rifle, because that is the delima as I've never seen a flush nut in person and I really like the look of the lockbar. I only saw his 42 but he says the rifles are twins as far as condition and the parts are all correct as per Scott Duffs books and he wants me to take them apart to be sure. Please any insight is appreciated.

Heck, buy my 9-41 Springfield 100% correct. Even down to the flush nut and GHS stock. Not one reproduction or counterfeit part on it. I have it on GB

Thanks Bill but I'll be heading south 1 hour to Vero Beach tomorrow to buy the 1942 SA but the gentleman is bringing the 41 which I hadn't seen to give me more choice. I think it would be more expensive but $1300 takes either one. I only wish I had $2600 but I'll start figuring a way to get another $1300 and he will probably wait. I'll just have to see what other stuff I can bare to part with. Selling three of my babies wasn't easy. The best part is I have enough of a collection that I can sell to acquire better quality M1icon's without breaking the bank. By the way I gave the wife $1000 so all is quiet on the southern front.

ps Bill I am not 100% sure his is not a restoration but at $1300 for what looks to be 100% correct and in wonderful condition it has to be miles better then my CMPicon mixmasters, though the one HRA seemed 100% correct to me.

The lockbar sight is certainly a more practical option. You don't need the combo tool to change sight settings.

But a real prelockbar sight that's not recently installed is by far scarcer. I'd go with it. But that's just me.

I would not let the fact that the rifle is "restored" stop me from buying as long as the restoration is well done. I would think the vast majority of WW2 M1icon rifles you see will be restored to some degree. Also a restoration done by an expert would be very tough to identify as such, unless you too are a "expert". I have owned a late 1941 for over 20 years and I am still not sure if it is a "restoration" and if so, to what degree.

    Well here it is.
As the deal went down it was a toss up. The 42 looked better and as I said I love the lock bar sights. Even though the 41's stamp is faint it is the reason I went with it, you see the 42 was Feb but had the EMcF cartouche. I am going to try and purchase that one but need more time.

Congratulations on your pre-war lend lease M1icon. And you got this for $1300.00 plus gas and a drive? The stock and flush nut are worth that. You just bought a GHS stock and flush nut sit for $1300.00 and the guy threw a receiver, barrel, op-rod and a grip of other accoutrements in on the deal. Wonderful! The rifle is worth close to twice that in parts alone.

Bill's right on the prices, that SA GHS stock, while the correct cartouche, could have came from another rifle. Lend Lease cartouches were excellent examples unless they were sanded down.
Years ago collectors would buy the Lend Lease rifle just to get the stock/cartouche then restock it and sell it

Dave, I have seen complete, real flush nuts sights go for $700.00 and nice GHS stocks with cartouche go for at least that and more. You got a great deal! Is the left sight knob checkered? What is the serial number?
