    1903 or 1903a3

I have been researching recently and found some things that are making me question if i have a 1903 or a 1903a3. I read that the 1903 has a rear sight mounted on the barrel and the 1903a3 has a rear sight mounted on the reciever. My rifle has been sporterized and it has 1903A3 stamped on the reciever but the sight is mounted on the barrel. Any ideas?

The barrel on your Rifle may have been replaced with an O3 barrel.
Is there anything stamped on the barrel just behind the front sight?
Also tell us what maker's name is stamped on the receiver and all or at least most of the serial number and we can probably tell you for sure.

    Regards,

    Jim
