Recently sold Enfield Enforcer on GB - comments?

An Enfield Enforcer just sold on GB for $4,725.99:

Link goes to an L39, and, yes, compared to UK prices ($1000 maybe) the price is a little on the high side.

Scrolling down the photos, the "Enforcer 071" engraving on the sidewall looks rather deep and bold; mag and bolt numbers don't look too good either.

I'd have thought that 071 would be a "single ovoid" Enforcer, as are all the others up to somewhere around #250.

Looks like the forend at least came from #222.

Link goes to a rifle incorrectly described as a L39.

It also incorrectly describes a Police Marksman rifle as a Sniper Rifle.

It appears to be a legitimate Enforcer no #71 with one matching magazine but no scope....and no wobbly engraving or engraving in ovoids.

It does have the special shortned safety, and correct Parker Hale foresight and rear sight.

Price appears to be very high considering that it is missing it's Pecar scope, market value around 800 pounds, and it is missing its Parker Hale RAHS4 scope rings,market value around 60 pounds.

$4725 dollars for a scopeless Enforcer does show that these marksmen rifles are getting very valuable.

If the buyer is quick there is a correct scope currently listed on EBAY.

Well, it was #71. An I have been looking for one for 20+ years. So I bid what I could afford. If the seller knew what it was the rifle would have had more players. It pays to look at every picture in sale ads.

I hope Ragtowne gives it a good home.

You are correct - it does pay to look at the pics and not make assumptions. - Doh !!

I agree it looks to be assembled using No 71 'metal' and No 222 wood.
I have no information in my database about the current status of either rifle but originally they were issued to :

Scottish Police on 10th December 1974

I don't think its even a real receiver - has anyone else got a low number Enforcer that is a "flatside" and not a "single ovoid"?

No 059 and No 134 both have the single 'ovoid'.
It doesnt seem logical that No 071 would have the later 'flat side' engraving more commonly found on the serial numbers 300+

If you go the the "Gunboard Forums" site and then go to the Mauser K98 part of the forum, you will find there are a number of posts related to this seller. I believe you will find these posts under the heading of “Turd found” or something like that. I will let those interested go to that site and draw their own conclusions, as I honestly do not have enough knowledge on K98 rifles to be able to comment intelligently. K98 rifles sell for a wide range of prices in the US, depending on the degree of correctness; as such there is a high incentive to “improve” rifles of that type in the US.
