    (93 picture virtual tour)

    Observations:

The pics in the virtual tour show the most common A.J. Parker/Parker Hale rear sights used on Enfield Riflesicon, from the No.1 SMLE all the way through to the No.4 DCRA 7.62mm Long Branch conversions. If you refer to Page 1 (second post) in this "Lee-Enfield Accessories and Research Material" thread, you'll find scanned instruction sheets for "Parker Hale Sights, Adjustment and Use".

Also in the photo montage is device that I don't believe is manufactured by A.J. Parker/Parker Hale. Employing a set of right angled mirrors, it's an aim corrector stamped "Model SM11 GA EME64". It slips over any Enfield No.4 rifle equipped with the Mk1 micrometer type rear sight, to permit an instructor to simultaneously view a student shooter's "sight picture".

    Collector's Comments and Feedback:

    1. When someone buys one of these A.J. Parker/Parker Hale micrometer sights, they're often missing the proper replacement length screws required to attach them to the rifle. There are a few sources of companies making modern replacement screws. If you need them, try Scott Stonehill at sstonehill@knology.net or his web site at Evans Obsolete Screws and Enfield Repair (click here). The pics below are scans of Scott's instructions for installing the PH5C sight on an Enfield No.4 rifle, using the longer rear mounting screw which can be obtained from him. ....... 2. The PH4 target sight is smaller and more compact than the PH5. It is a direct replacement for the service sight. Elevation is sufficient for 1000yd., 30 minutes each way for windage. My understanding is that it is an earlier design than the PH5C. Installation instructions point out that the sight must flex on its pivot under recoil. ....... (Feedback by "Tiriaq")

    3. For anyone interested in gaining a better understanding of the evolution of A.J. Parker/Parker Hale micrometer sights, I'd recommending locating this rare and interesting book called A Century of Sights and Sighting Aids by Edna Rosalind Parker. She is the daughter of Alfred J. Parker (founder of Alfred J. Parker Ltd.) and granddaughter of A.G. Parker (founder of Parker hale Ltd.). With her knowledge of the business and access to all of the various historical documents and pictures of the various sights, this little book makes for a very through and accurate reference piece on the subject. There is no ISBN number for it, so I'd suggest you use a "Google" search on the title to see if you can find a copy from one of the rare used book sources on the Internet. I found my copy on a table at a local gun show. ....... (Feedback by "Badger")

    5. Sometimes, the web site of the U.K. National Rifle Association Historic Arms Resource Centre, is down, or not on-line.
