    Remington UMC 1911 ?

Local club member was shooting a A nice AA rebuild 1911 at the range this week. Slide was Remington UMC but the 1911 frame had a serial # that started with an " X " instead of " No. " , it had the " United Statesicon Property " on left side but no proof above mag release. Is this gun built on a replacement frame ?

Springfield Armory provided replacement serial numbers beginning with X to rebuild facilities to be used on pistols that had lost their serial numbers. The pistol could have been a stolen and recovered with the serial number removed, or the serial number could have been lost during the sandblasting process in rebuild.
Clawson's Collector's Guide has a list of where the X serial numbers were assigned.
