Hello, New member here and looking forward to an interesting and informative forum. My interests are M1icon Garands and M1 Carbines and
other militaria. Navy VN era vet and still like to shoot, especially with
my children and grandchildren. Other hobbies are reading and philatelics
and going to gun shows with my oldest son, who is also a Garand collector.

    Thumbs up Hi everyone.

I was a member on the old CSPicon site , left because it was too slow in loading ( again) , came back after a month or so...and it was gone! Found this a couple of weeks ago , but while I was still listed , I had problems remembering my password and getting able to post. But all that's hopefully taken care of today.
I've been shooting from childhood on a farm. Got into collecting WW2 USGI only in '86 after 10-12 yrs of trying EVERYTHING ever made ( more or less).I spent most of my time on the old 1903 , 1917 , carbine, and Johnson boards , a little on the Garandicon and 1911 boards. I go by the same handle on the 1919A4 , Thompson Machinegun , and 22 rifle forums.
I thought I was an "expert" in this , but I have found people here that are true experts in thier fields ( say carbines) , knowing far more than me. I am a RKI in many different areas , and I have found , often , common info in one field that is unknown in another.
I look forward to many interesting reads and discussions again. I see many old friends here. I hope to make many new ones.
    Yours , Chris

    Relax and squeeze

    Hi!

I collect (and shoot) military firearms. My pistols range from the Mauser Broomhandle (C96) to a SIG P226 Elite Dark in 357SIG caliber. Yes, I did manage to put my hands on a pair of Sig P210-2, which I have not shot yet, so in the near future I will be able to provide first hand comments on this mythical Swissicon precision device.

I can't seem to get interested in revolvers. They look to me as old technology. To shoot with an open chamber... boggles my mind. Whereas automatics need to deploy creativity and mechanical refinement to produce a dependable, slick device. I probably need guidance and some sort of education here...

Rifles: Mausers, Mausers, Mausers. I have six, an a Brazilianicon 7x57 underway. I am gradually working my way up to nicer (and more expensive) ones. Best group so far is five shots in 1/2" at 100m with a M38 6,5x55 (my reloads). I found (for a steal) a Remington 700, hand made, with a Douglas SS barrel (16 pounds the bugger) in that same caliber that punches clovers, but that's not a fair comparison.

I rediscovered (& totally flipped! over) open sight shooting in 2000, at an outing with the Toronto Swiss Rifle Club. One 64 years old guy was punching repeated 10s and "Mouches" (2 in. diam.) at 300m with militia standard issue (RUAG) ammo. This shook my prejudices against human eye sight and manufactured ammo... and sent me on a rampage to eventually find a pair of IG11 and Kar31. Gad! I like things well made.

Have a Garand, Bavarian Underwood M1icon Carbine, SMLE, AR-15 HBAR, Mosin-Nagant sniper and the next best thing (better actually) to an AK (I will let you guess what) in 7,62x39. A collector needs to have the classics, no? Got a K43 on my radar screen but it's g.d. expensive.

Which bring me the Sturmgewehr. I will have a lot to say in future posts about this 2008 reproduction "made in Germanyicon" by Sport System Dittrich (their "BD-44"). You all know what it costs: it was a big disappointment for me. Thanks to Frank of Marstar, we manage to fix things, sort of. If I was Bernd Dittrich, I would be a shame to sell and ship out products in that condition, with instructions in such bad English. Bottom line is the stock to receiver assembly: pitiful at best. Dis-assembly, as received, is next to impossible without damaging this "precious". Saw another one, an also new repro MKb42(H) from SSD, at another seller: same condition.

Hornady #3230 (the 125gr. SP in .323"), the only bullet for the 8mm kurz seems to be discontinued. I wrote tot heir customer service and pleaded; I proposed to place a private large qty order (5 or 10k). Will see what they answer. I got the Lee dies and the brass, so I only need the bullets. Otherwise, S&B surplus are rare in Montreal and go for 35$ to the 15. I'm not likely to wear out my barrel at that price.

DESPERATELY SEEKING vz. 52 PISTOL in 7,62x 25 Tokarev. If you see one somewhere (in Canadaicon!) please let me know.

Been at it since 1986. Can't find the cure for that finger itching and "the smell of victory", no, I mean the smell of burned gun powder.

And by the way, I'm not at war against animals, just against insolent cardboards with dark concentric circles, staring at me from 100m, 300m and further (but with a scope). Last ground hog I shot (in 1989) broke my heart: what a stupid, useless thing to do!

With all that blabbing, I guess you now know a little bit about me. Have a good evening And I'm sure I will have a lot of fun reading your stuff.

    JF

Hello, I just joined today. I've been collecting and restoring surplus and antique firearms since 1773. That was when you could spend a little money and get a lot. Today, I can't afford the guns I used to own. But, I have fond memories of them. I shoulda kept them all! Well, I hope to get to know all of you here! Fred G.

Have been a collector for only a few years. Recently came across an M1icon carbine I'm trying to get info on. I guess I need to join one of the forums.
