Be careful with the Indian 7.62 x 51 ammo

Sorry, I don't have a headstamp for you. This is the stuff with the highly dull-copperish look to both the cartridge cases and bullets. You can find split cases up & down the firing lines of ranges all over the country. Somebody must be selling it mail-order cuz I saw a table full at a gun show in Texas over the weekend. I asked one of the sellers if this ammo was, as I suspected, from India, and he confirmed. I mentioned to him in a polite way that the stuff may be - in my words - "dangerous" because everybody who does much rifle shooting knows the cases have split on many rounds fired. He didn't wanna hear it, was defensive & reactive, maintained he had gone through a large supply of these rounds and - get this - RE-BOXED only the "best" ones to sell (at 75 or 80 cents ea). OK, it was neither the time nor place to get preachy, so I moved on. Just be alert, especially around the gun shows & flea mkts. We're all acutely aware of the tight supplies of loaded ammo, but don't roll the dice on stuff that could damage your rifle or YOU, if you can help it. There's still a little South African here & there, Portugese (FN), Eastern European, UMC (Remington), and Winchester, as well as USGI M80 ball. Assuming it's been properly stored it's all safe to shoot in your M1Aicon, FAL, AR10, HK91, or bolt gun.
