    Cool A Colt 1903 again

If any of you gentlemen are able to look up any data on these U.S. Property Pistols, Would you please check my Serial No. 566864 as well. Do you think that this gun is worth the expense of obtaining a Colt Letter?

    Thanks.

Your pistol was mfgd. in 1942. The closest General Officers pistols to yours would be 566858 and 566868. I believe getting a letter would be a good thing as many of these were used by officers and OSS

Duane, that pistol was actually made in 1944.

Tom, I got the mfg. info off of ProofHouse.com ..I guess the information on that site is not reliable or I'm not reading the charts correctly. Thanks for correcting me. I do not want to lead anyone astray with bad information.

    The ProofHouse numbers sound incorrect.

Probably one of the best sources for dates of mfg. is John Brunner's book, "The Colt Pocket Hammerless Pistols". Brunner did extensive research on these pistols, and I beleive he used Colt assembly and shipment records as well as Government contract info to determine manufacture dates.

Another reason these two pistols were not made in 1942 pistols is because Colt didn't start to parkerize the Hammerless Autos until well into 1944.

There's quite a bit of misinformation on ProofHouse.
