    Sasha and the coyote

Went over to my office to grab something to take to work and looked out the window ( nice when your office is at home ). Here was a coyote eating cherries that had fallen on the ground,

Well Sasha is the boss of the yard and chasing off coyotes is one of her duties. You can see how smart the coyote is as it is in the shade just out of reach of Sasha.

Sasha gives that yote one glance over her shoulder after she has shown the yote who is boss.

Now back to claim her cookie for a job well done. Mind you the yote is back eating cherries by now.

Sasha and the coyotes seem to have a deal worked out, as long as they pay her the proper amount of respect and run away when she says. They get along pretty good. Also those yotes know exactly how long Sasha's rope is. But it broke one day and the coyote had a very surprised expression on it's face. But after chasing it out of the yard Sasha came back, after all you only get paid to do so much.

    Time to go to work.

Be glad it was only 1 coyote

because 2 coyotes would have had her for lunch, and maybe even 1, they are quicker , more agile, have better endurance & have fought for their food their entire lives. 2 or more coyotes know how to hunt & fight as a team in taking down larger prey.

Neighbors of ours (when we still lived on the farm), didn't believe in guns or hunting, and coyotes would lure their dogs off the porch and kill them. You might want to keep a rifle or good handgun handy & next time pop the coyote.

    Then I went to work.

First picture is looking down at a couple of small tanks and some piping we need to modify for bio diesel.

Just down a touch where the guys are parking beside the fab area and area we are installing the new slabs, foundations and pump pads I see this gal.

    She wasn't too spooky.

Then I saw momma and her twins on the bank. Remember we are working all around these guys welding, grinding, equipment digging, etc.

Picture of the work site just a 100' or so from the deer.

This is Gerry very interesting guy. He was a border guard for the East Germans back before the wall came down. In the early 60's he escaped. He was a dog handler and pointed his machine pistol ( as he calls it ) at his Sargent and then took the Sargents weapon and ammo. He then told the dog to guard and ran across no man's land with the weapons. Once safely on the West Germanicon side he called his dog. He is of the old European school of craftsmanship. As you can see from his weld. This pipe is an open ended drain going to be wrapped and buried as you can see from the grout ring. He still has so much pride in his work that the weld is perfect, the cap is filed and it's buffed. we need to learn from guys like this.

Another good thing about Gerry is that he is married to a fine lady who occasionally sends in home made baking. Here the guys are at coffee having some of her fresh blueberry cake with Drambuie ( only 1 piece allowed ).

A coyote will only fight a dog that size if forced to. They are not stupid (get hurt for no gain) and these must be well fed anyway. 4-5 maybe but only if starving.

    Thank you Gimp,

I have had friends whose dog has been attacked as you state. I am some what nervous but we have a lot of wild animals around and it is not uncommon to see 2 or 3 coyotes in the backyard. Sasha is a little smarter than she looks and knows when to pick her fights. But generally speaking I believe Dave is correct. A coyote will suffer some serious hurt when taking on a dog of Sasha's size, even if there are several of them. As long as there are lots of mice to eat they won't attack.

    Announcement Dogs

Is Sasha a Siberian mix? I raised them for 12 years. Some of the best dogs ever. The only problem is they are too smart for their own good! I had a red (copper) male named Codi. I then raised Blue Queensland Healers. They are too smart for the owners good!

Yotes will call out domestic dogs and kill them. If you have a female in heat they will call her out like she is going to get some and kill her or breed her. I've seen the results of both.

Sasha is a pound puppy of mixed parentage. I know that she has Chow in her from the purple tongue and skin on the belly. But what else I don't know.

Siberians have blue/black tongues and skin also. She looks siberian to me. Nonetheless, a good looking dog.

Last December I let my little dog out about 1:30 AM and met a yote at the corner of the garrage. I think it was headed for the dog. Good thing I was there. Now when I let him out I carry a 12 bore with 00 buck and #4 shot.
