    I think he's referring to the butt of the rifle Jon, it appears to have a square one, no curve at the bottom. Had to do something with some of the buttplates taken off the model 92s! Maybe Bannerman didn't buy them all.

    That guy is as wide on the bottom as on top. But yeah, it seems to me my old '96 carbine had a butt like that one - the gun, not the soldier.

    All the same, everything I've read about the SAW indicates a diet conducive to weight loss. The picture was obviously taken **before** departure to Cuba.

    If you look closely at the bolt this appears to be a "98" or "99" carbine. I think it is just the camara angle that makes the toe look straight instead of curved. IF there were any carbine stocks with straight stock toes they would have had the "96" pattern bolt inletting.

    Viewing the distance from the grasping groove and the front band it would seem to be a long stock---so '99.
