All this is going to do is start another round of the PTB's banning people and generally tossing a hissy-fit. No matter what they choose to rationalize it as, it's nothing more or less than something called "censorship" and it's always ugly! It's also why Maj. Culvericon chose to take care of things himself "back in the day"! Mores' the pity! To think that calling a spade a spade doesn't just get moved "Below the salt" to the "Private Thought Gulag" but gets censored outright...HERE, on CSP!

I particularly enjoyed how "the mods" throw out a comment like:

"I will as well as the rest of the moderators will be glad when all of you can carry on a thread of high notoriety without turning it into a blood fest for the dead!"

Then immediately lock it. All I see is a bunch of people saying that they didn't like or respect the man and giving their reasons why. Where is the "blood fest"?

I realize it's your playground, but this "say nice things or go away" stuff stinks.

I don't know, I read the thread and didn't find it out of line. Dead or alive, I don't think anyone is above approach for their actions. Ray

I hadn't bothered reading this thread because I really don't care about some old talking head ( nor the present ones either ). Having read the posts I think that the mod's have been a little sensitive. As for not speaking ill of the dead ask the Jews what think about a fellow named Hitler. Some times you just have to tell it as it is.

    From the CSPicon Posting Guidelines:

"By using our forums, you warrant that you will not post any messages that are obscene, vulgar, sexually-oriented, anti-Semitic, discriminatory, hateful, threatening, bigoted, or otherwise violative of any laws"

Let's see, regarding the closed "Uncle Wally" topic..."Obscene"? Nothing, not a single word I couldn't use in church! "Vulgar"? Not by any "community standard" I'm familiar with, unless Walter himself would be considered "vulgar". "Sexually-oriented"? Not hardly! "Anti-semetic"? Nope! "Discriminatory"? Not that I can see! "Hateful"? Define it first! I believe that the comments were based on the man's thoughts and ideas, not on his person, so how can they possibly be considered "hateful"? "Threatening"? The guy's dead, how can you threaten him...or is critiquing his thoughts and ideas "threatening" to his legacy, and therefore proscribed? "Bigoted"? Heck no!...pusillanimous liberalism is an equal opportunity affliction...just look who's living in The White House! "Violative of any laws"? Not unless there's something in Canadianicon law I'm not familiar with.

So...since I can't see anything in the published posting guidelines that would prohibit that topic...all I'm left with as a reason to censor it is: "Because they can!".

"As a nation, we began by declaring that "all men are created equal." We now practically read it "all men are created equal, except Negroes." When the Know-Nothings get control, it will read "all men are created equal, except Negroes and foreigners and Catholics." When it comes to this, I shall prefer emigrating to some country where they make no pretense of loving liberty - to Russiaicon, for instance, where despotism can be taken pure and without the base alloy of hypocrisy." Moderators may do as they wish ... ... I see this kind of thing as falling in the Small Stuff category over which we are behooved to not generate any perspiration, y'know?

Cronkite was a liberal. Cronkite is now dead. Treat him like any other fossil... put him on display as an example of a extinct way of life.

Folks, the previous thread on this subject was locked. It makes no sense to move another into the same topic. If you have a problem with a moderator's action, take it to PM. Do not trash the mods on the open forums.

    Good day.
