M96/38

A few months ago I got a Swedish icon

Mauser at an auction, thinking it was an M96. It turned out to be an M96/38. I was so disappointed that I threw it in the closet and never shot it. Yesterday, I went to the range to test fire some FN-49's and Hakim's for an upcoming match. I decided to take the 96/38 with me and shoot a few rounds. I only had time for a few rounds, so I shot three careful shots with Prvi Partizan 6.5 x 55 139 gr SP's, with this result.

The group measures about .7 inches, center-to-center with my calipers. Might try this one at the next military silhouette match.

All matching, except the lower barrel band, which has a different number and the bayo lug, which is un-numbered.

Why were you disappointed? That is a very nice rifle! Now go get a 96 for a mate. Observe the barrel length, this time. hehehe!

It was one of those on-line estate sales. After it arrived, I went back and looked at the pictures and could see that it was indeed a short rifle.

I'm not sure, I have never look'ed for an importers mark. I got it from a C3 shooter who was in need of money to feed his Auto Rifle habbit in '02.
It is an all matching 1908 CG 41b. The most important thing is that it shoots. Every bit of steel is numbered.

You need to collect at least four different models: 94, 96, 96/38 and 38.
