    Bayonet cutting edge upside down

I have been looking at this stupid bayonet for awhile and trying to figure out what it is.

Metal scabbard with a Z in a circle and what looks like a M in a square. That is on the belt hook.

Wood handle with a large "K" carved in one side and diaagonal line on the other side.

Cutting edge is toward the bayonet mount. Bass ackward!

Markings were removed were the blade enters the grips and there is a large "G" stamped there. This maybe a captured bayo but why remove the maker?

I will try to post images when the sun shines here again.....

The only ones I've seen with the cutting edge on the top of the blade were Italianicon as memory serves.

Olsen's book on the Mausers mentions this bayonet, it is I believe Czek, but my memory is not very good.

    They are quite common.

Z in a circle and cutting edge up is undoubtedly Czechicon.

Sure sounds like a Czechicon VZ24. I have one in my collection with the Z in a circle. Has the muzzle ring been ground off and the scabbard painted black? If so, it saw Germanicon service. Later VZ 24s were marked with the German code DOT for Brno (Brunn) The cutting edge on top, is a hold over from the Austrian Mannlicher bayonets. Remember that that part of the current Czech Republic was the Kingdom of Bohemia in the Austro Hungarianicon Empire before 1918

Thanks to everybody for their responses! The muzzle ring has not been ground off ( Called standing ears?) and the scabbard is bright metal. I thought the scabbard might have just been put on the bayonet. I was wrong. Thanks again.

There are two main upside down blades, th eAustrian 1895 distiguishable by the two proud rivets on the cross guard and the Czechicon 23/24/33 series that look like Germanicon 84/98's but with 3 blade lengths. Take a look at
    CZECHOSLOVAK Mauser Bayonets and Variations
there are most variations there (bar a non mountable dress that i keep gettign their after "I just sold one" )

I know my bayo is Czech after I looked at your web site (GREAT!) I looked closer at mine and there is a E3 then a lion on the side of the blade. The pommel was used to pound rocks I guess but I did see a crooked S A and a C 1 or C7. THanks to all!
