That looks real to me. I see a couple things about it, that up to now, the fakers didn't have correct.

I know a guy in Ct. ,he makes stamps for any firearm. He lifts the marking from the original stamps and copies them. Hes a old gunsmith. He will let you examine the stamp under magnifying glasses. Its impossible to tell them apart as they are a exact copy. He showed me a Winchester stamp he had made for a guy. He will copy anything. Personally I think he should be shot but hes not the only one around doing it. A good copy is undetectable. don b in fl.

Is there any outrage that this is on the market? What if "you know who" purchases it! Anyway, if this is used for purposes other than a collector piece, is the stock considered "humped"?
Personally, I'd say No since many collectors are swapping original parts (an argument I've heard on this forum) to make the carbine "all-correct". This would be a finishing touch....

If it is original, which I doubt it is, then whomever uses it to stamp or re-stamp stock would be telling the truth if it were said it was an "original stamp". Think of what that could do to the stock market.

Isn't it amazing how these "original" parts, tools and whatever just show up all of a sudden? It seems like there has been more of this stuff showing up lately. I guess as technology get better then so do the fakes. Thanks so much Brian for your input on this.

Good to know that you, and a few others around here that have been at this for a long time, can still spot the fakes. They're getting better all the time. Could collecting carbines eventually get to be like collecting rare coins ...examined, graded, and certified proofs by some official club? (there's a jop opening for you). I hope it doesn't have to get like that, but if there's money to be made(people to be scammed), the humpers will always be active. As mentioned above, they can make a new die every month if need be, to improve on the old, once people begin to zero in on the previous flaws.
That could be what very well happened in this case....some flaws fixed, new ones introduced.

The write up states that this is THE original stamp used on Inland carbines....
Now, how many think that there was only one made? Govco never makes one of anything. And too, it looks mint with hardly any signs of being used either. Also wonder if they were actually marked US PROPERTY. Has anyone ever looked at a known real stamp?
