Old aircrat ammo in box

I am sure there is older out there but this box is dated 1920 and is still sealed.

You do come up with some interesting items. The “Book” has an illustration, (on pg.111) much like yours, Except it was loaded Nov.14 1918, Lot 447,, but does use Pyro and F. A. 70 primers. This ammo was manufactured to AC requirements and FA, WRA & US Cart. Co. made some 30 million rounds during the WWI period.

Hackley, Woodin & Scranton (H,W&S) make references to the primer crimp, what kind of primer crimp does your ammo have?? Also does the cases have any stars included in the head stamp??

A quick ‘look thru’ the “Book”, shows that were also Tracer, AP, AP-Incendiary and Incendiary projectiles loaded in cases, “For Aircraft Use Only” during the WWI period.

I reckon telling the primer crimp type and headstamp might be a tad difficult as the box is still sealed!

There are sealed boxes and then they are sealed boxes. Look at the photo, that top front edge is not sealed, a small thin blade and a small flashlight would give an answer as to type of crimp and headstamp. However, I am sure DRB is smart enough to know that.

I would also suspect that box has been opened (as well it should) and then partially resealed, maybe.
