    M1907 sling modifications (pics)

Hello all , need some help with my recent yard sale find. I got a very nice uniform set including issued but unused pants and shirt. The question is some interesting modifications done to M1907 slings. It appears two were used to form this long strap with a odd , to me, double buckle. Has anyone seen this before? Military or private modification?

If private, I may take them apart, does anyone have a source for the smaller sling section and some keepers? Any advise?
    Thanks Ike

P.S.: I also am including a belt pic, not seen this style before can anyone decipher the stamping and what time frame are they from? Thanks

As for the sling, it appears to be a owner modification, and an interesting one at that.

To add a few things the slings appear to be possibly unissued, in that the holes are punched but the excess material is still there in some of the holes.

Two out of the four sections are marked " H&P 1918 W.E.H..

The buckles are substantial and the double prongs, which I do not believe are common, so it is hard for me to believe that it was owner modified, although it could be possible. There were three all together as well (I only bought two, dumb!!) so someone, I believe, was altering them with some volume.
    Thanks Ike

May have been a field modification, but any unit saddler joining straps together in that manner as opposed to sewing would have been in for an "interview, without coffee" from the C.O.
Bifurcated (or ANY for that matter) rivets DO sort of work, but they also weaken the leather due to removal of some hide...they're also a source of moisture build up, verdis gris, etc.

I've seen similar buckles from the period - my thoughts would be on some sort of saddle horse strap - but given the time that's passed since the slings were made then ANYTHING could have happened since they left the QM store's - and frequently does...

I retired from the USAF in 1995. Wore a belt just like the bottom one with my BDUs.
