Exclamation M1 Carbine called into service again

    Well, sort of...

I pulled my Underwood "Mash Az" re-import out of the safe and called it to duty as a house/farm weapon again. This year after an severe injury, I had my right shoulder completely re-built (3 detached and retracted rotor cuff tendons and one torn) which took a long and painful rehab. One has since re-detached and I am waiting another surgery. Now my Mossberg 3" 12 ga deer and Saiga 7.62 are out of the question as a house/farm guns for now.

The handy little carbine with a AI 30 rounder filled with 110 grain Remington JSP had to step up to duty again. Even with my thrashed shoulder I can shoot it (I just did this week end down by the creek) without additional pain. I have confidence that it will fill the need against 2 legged trolls under 100 yards. I took a deer that weighed over 175 pounds with one shot with a carbine back in the late 1980s, so I know they can be effective. @650 lbs ME at 100 yards is better than a pistol point blank.

We look at these wonderful little weapons, sometimes in a vacuum. It is easy not appreciate that they can be very effective PDWs, if used with proper ammo and within their capabilities. I certainly prefer it to a 40 grn 5.7mm out of an FN2000! They certainly have sent their share of souls to the "wherever" through the years in WW2, Korea, Vietnam, Israel, and Central America

57 isn't old, but damn I don't mend as fast or as well I used to

My lovely IBM mixmaster with all the arsenal upgrades is my primary HD weapon... I like the balance of it with the 15 rounder...I also have the sling removed and no stock pouch..Nothing to snag in a lurch... Pops to my shoulder like a dream...Hardly need to practice with it but it's plenty of fun to do it!... Most of the "underpowered round" is overblown Internet Horse Hockey IMNSHO... Plenty of deer have been killed with the old 32-20 and the 30 carbine is better than it in factory loadings...Hang in there and mend well

    Another M1 on HD duty...

Inland with stock pouch and two 15 with 12 each of the Win 110HP.
Did a slight polishing job on feed ramp to minimize stuttering of soft-nose ammo.

Sorry to hear of your shoulder ordeal, but glad you're on the mend.

Sounds like your carbine is just the thing for you at this time.

Good luck. Hope you continue to heal.

    Thanks

    Thank you gentlemen...

I still have another surgery to go, but it is for re-attaching only one tendon. Earlier this year it re-attached three and repaired one. THAT SUCKED!!!!! In fairness, my Saiga with an AK103 brake and Russkie grenade launcher recoil pad has little recoil. Even though I shot that this last week end, it was under optimum conditions and did not hurt. It still makes me nervous, so I will use the Underwood.
