A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. That first pic 45/70 caused me a nasty flashback.
I'm with you, I like these conversions, and when I saw a jungle carbine/no1mk3 conversion 7.62? conversion I jumped at it. It had the same dark walnut color as yours.
I took to the range, it was a damp drizzly day. In a few minutes I was black all over it seemed. The 'stain'/color was 100% water soluble, completely dissolvable, and came off on everything, a truly incredible mess.

I stripped it off with a garden hose, and did a proper stain and BLOicon on it, much better. A really nice rifle, still wish I had it, despite the navy arms wonky provenance.

i don't need one.... i just want one.
might prefer a park finish, though.
as i recall, they came with a survival fishing kit in the buttstock.
hard to get a deal like that these days.
